Quilt Market photos

Okay, so I'm behind on this, and I'm not going to be super informative....yet! I had a mixup and ended up not having my camera during quilt market. Bummer. But I did have my Mom's ipad (which unfortunately has a problem focusing), BUT I don't have the pictures from it. During Thanksgiving I'm going to try and get a family member to send them to me (I'll be celebrating Thanksgiving Brazilian style, on Saturday at the pool!). So soon I'll have a great post on the setup and process of the whole shebang. But until then, I have the internet! Lots of wonderful bloggers caught great pictures, so I'll share my experience through their eyes. Here we go!

Let's see, these first few are courtesy of Rashida Coleman-Hale for Spoonflower's blog (did you know there were going to be famous designers at Quilt Market? I guess I knew, but didn't prep my 'I follow you, but not like a stalker' speech).

Since I'm new to the whole game, I thought I'd try and show people where I'm coming from. I'm trained (training being college and some work experience) in textile design. In college I learned all sorts of amazing handicrafts like natural and chemical dying, screen-printing, felting, weaving, knitting and crocheting, color theory...the list goes on. This is my basic process (draw, color, computer) and I wanted to share it with people.

And then the booth itself. Doing research for this show I looked at previous booths which I looked up to, like Anna Maria Horner and Amy Butler (of course), and sort of counted how many things they had in their booth. I had no idea what to make at first. So Amy Butler has like billions of pillows in her booth and I didn't quite make a billion, but I think I made a lot. In the end, I might have over-made. I was looking at the incredible double booths that immediately catch your eye, not quite remembering that I was only having a single booth. Haha. We did manage to fit everything in there, though.

Let's see what we have. Above: my first ever quilt is hanging on the back left chair. Quilted by Cara of Talkin Tuesdays. In the back left corner is a really awesome laundry hamper that I made, but it ended up being more or less one of those "I packed my own lunch for Quilt Market, now where can I hide it in my booth?" items. Hid all sorts of stuff. If you gave me a business card, at the end of the day, that's where it went. Handy dandy. You can't really see, but I crocheted some little cup coozies. They're really fun. They'll be on the blog soon. Then... lots of bags and backpacks, a duffle bag, bathrobe, pants and skirt and decoupaged plates.

And then, behind it all, to add a little pizazz, some drawings. I sketched it all the night before Market opened. My Mom and I bought two boxes of chalk, thinking it was going to take a lot of chalk. Well... I have two boxes, minus one stick of chalk left. Time to paint a wall dark grey in my house. Chalkboard time!
